TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 5 Years

28.12.15

TripAdvisor is a word that foments a very wide spectrum of responses in people. For linguistic and grammatical purists, can be a source of much irritation: where amateurs have usurped professional journalists, littering their prose with misnomers and non sequiturs.

For the techno-savvy traveller, it is a handy resource for scoping a place out in an unfamiliar location: even someone with a vast network of friends might struggle for a recommendation for a Restaurant in Barrow, Alaska. But perhaps the strongest of reactions is exhibited by the Hotelier: General Managers, the world over, have been known to slip into anaphylactic shock at TripAdvisor reviews disparaging undercooked potatoes.

But the opposite can be true. For consistently good reviews can, for the Hotelier, evoke a euphoria comparable to that one would experience by scaling the summit of Everest.

This year, Jesmond Dene House of Newcastle upon Tyne won TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the 5th year in a row; entering TripAdvisor’s all-time Hall of Fame. And, rather than the Hotelier’s anathema, it is a feat especially satisfying insofar as it is as a result of customers’ consistently good reviews.

Furthermore, the TripAdvisor awards are a two-way street, benefiting the Hotels and their customers alike; as the standards of hospitality are driven upwards in the pursuit of the accolade. TripAdvisor harness calculus worthy of NASA in order to determine which Hotels are shortlisted for their coveted Certificate of Excellence: employing an algorithm that factors the quality and quantity of TripAdvisor reviews received over the year, as well as a business’s tenure and ranking on the ‘Popularity Index’ on the site.

To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor “bubble” rating of at least four out of five stars, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.

Consistently good reviews, from TripAdvisor travellers, have earned Jesmond Dene House the award. Jesmond Dene House is one of very few properties to have won TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence every year since the award began in 2011 and, by way of acknowledgement, to be inducted into TripAdvisor’s Hall of Fame.

So, a thank you to all of our guests who have shown their support for us, and Newcastle, on TripAdvisor and have helped ease our General Manager’s nervous disposition.
