Ornulf Opdahl at Jesmond Dene House
Friday 13th May – Saturday 4th June 2016
Celebrate the launch of the book Towards the Light: The Paintings of Ornulf Opdahl and an exhibition of the artist’s lithographs at Jesmond Dene House.
Ørnulf Opdahl’s landscapes of the Norwegian west coast, around his home on the island of Gødøy, pull no punches. Instead of pretty fjords and sun-dappled forests, they reflect the power, menace, rawness – as well as the richness – of the land and sea.
He captures the treacherousness as well as the beauty of glaciers and snow; the heavy darkness as well as the evanescent light of Norwegian winters.
Ørnulf Opdahl was born in Ålesund, on the west coast of Norway, in 1944. He studied at Statens Art Academy in Oslo where he was later Professor of painting from 1985 to 1992. He lives and works on the island of Gødøy, near Ålesund, with his wife the celebrated tapestry artist Sidsel Colbiørnsen.
TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF JESMOND DENE HOUSE 22/03/2020
Dear Family and Friends of Jesmond Dene House,
We are absolutely committed to the well-being, health and safety of our guests and staff.
The COVID-19 virus is rapidly spreading throughout the world and each Government is following their own strategy to minimise the impact on their people.
The UK Government have advised most recently that people should avoid bars, theatres, clubs, and by implication, restaurants, though businesses are left to make their own operational choices based on their unique circumstances.
This is a rapidly changing situation and in order to ensure we put our guests and staff at the front of our considerations we have made the decision to temporarily close the hotel with effective from 19:00hrs, Sunday, 22nd March 2020.
We will keep everyone advised as the situation changes and look forward to welcoming you all back at the earliest possible time and in accordance with future Government and WHO advice.
We wish you and your families well through this difficult time.
