There are over 80 courses within an hour’s drive of the city, from urban parkland courses to links courses to championship standard. These include the nearby City of Newcastle Golf Club, Arcot Hall, just to the north of the city, the historic links course at Alnmouth (known as Foxton) and two championship courses at Slaley Hall.

Great North Run
The world’s largest half-marathon, 52,000 runners, takes place every autumn (September/October, dates vary) starting in Newcastle and finishing 13.1 miles later in South Shields. The starting point is 1.5 miles from the hotel.

Surfing lessons, as well as surf hire shops, are available at Tynemouth, 20 minutes from Jesmond, while Embleton Bay, Alnmouth and Bamburgh are popular surfing spots further north on the Northumberland coast.
Regional and national surfing competitions are frequently held at Longsands Beach, Tynemouth, one of the UK’s most popular surfing locations.
