ØRNULF OPDAHL'S LANDSCAPES OF NORWEGIAN WEST COAST, AROUND HIS HOME ON THE ISLAND OF GØDØY, PULL NO PUNCHES.

Ørnulf Opdahl’s landscapes of the Norwegian west coast, around his home on the island of Gødøy, pull no punches. Instead of pretty fjords and sun-dappled forests, they reflect the power, menace, rawness – as well as the richness – of the land and sea. He captures the treacherousness as well as the beauty of glaciers and snow; the heavy darkness as well as the evanescent light of Norwegian winters. His lithographs and etchings hang in the breakfast room, main hallway and in some of the bedrooms.

Biography: Ørnulf Opdahl was born in Ålesund, on the west coast of Norway, in 1944. He studied at Statens Art Academy in Oslo where he was later Professor of painting from 1985 to 1992. He currently lives and works on the island of Gødøy, near Ålesund.
