Jesmond has a mixed and lively population, from students and young professionals to families, with many working in the media and creative industries, or at the city’s universities and hospitals.
A favourite haunt is Jesmond Dene, the wooded valley next to the hotel, where locals come to relax and unwind. Criss-crossed with paths and dotted with waterfalls and rustic bridges, it’s an easy place to take a stroll. Children love the playground and the animals in Pets’ Corner, plus you might spot kingfishers, squirrels and ducks roaming free.
Walk 10 minutes from the hotel in the other direction from the Dene and you’re in the heart of Jesmond. Streets such as Acorn Road, Brentwood Avenue, Clayton Road and St George’s Terrace have specialist shops including fashion, gifts, jewellery, delicatessens and homewares. There are pavement cafes, a wide choice of bars plus neighbourhood bistros. Walk further and you’ll find the wide, open spaces of the Town Moor or hop on the Metro to be in the city within five minutes.
